If you are in the eastern part of the capital like Nunoa, also try La Espiga (Hernan Cortes/Suecia) or just down the street, Panaderia Oriente. Also outstanding marraqueta and other breads. Suerte!

I was born in Santiago and I immigrated to the US in 1977. I have been back to visit many times but I've lost touch with my toots. Everything has changed. Bread now is made in factories like Castaño. I'll try San Pedro and if it really is like you describe, I'll be in debt to you for the short remainder.

ooh, that's just steps from home, and I've surely never been there. I'll check it out soon, and report back. I've been in Chile 5 years but still haven't grown accustomed to the twice-a-day bread mania. I like mine whole wheat, and with seeds. Got any leads on that? (aside from Castaño and Fuchs?).

Beautiful post, btw.
